Waterproofing Membranes & Sealants

Water Proof Membrane & Sealant

Step 1  Investigation

A thorough investigation to locate all areas with damaged or failed membranes.

  Remediation

Removal of product in trouble areas, careful preparation, and application of new product.

  Restoration

Integrated building systems are restored to their ideal state.

THE PROBLEM

Membranes and sealants are important components of the building envelope and water management systems. Membranes are used to cover large surface areas and are often used on roofs, on balconies, in parkades and on other flat surfaces with direct exposure to water. Sealants are used on building exteriors to waterproof the connection between different materials. They are applied around windows and doors to keep them water-tight and at other transitions and joints in the building envelope system. These products often require repair and replacement over time. They are also known to fail under extreme stress or abuse, and in cases of poor application. There are also cases where no membranes or sealants are being used. All of the above issues have the same implications of potentially allowing water to leak through to the interior. This can lead to water damage and microbial growth.

THE SOLUTION

Proactive investigations and testing are always recommended to identify areas of concern and prevent costly damage and repairs. Membranes are not always easy to access, but they can be tested with water in a controlled environment to ensure that there is no leaking. Sealants are more accessible and a visual investigation can identify areas of concern. In most cases there are multiple solutions and products available. We work with building envelope engineers to determine the best solution and product for each scenario. The proper preparation of the affected area is critical for the successful application of product. By paying attention to these details we are able to guarantee our work and the building also benefits from the product manufacturer’s warranty.

RESTORATION

Membranes and sealants are often a visual component to the building exterior. By paying attention to the details and carefully applying the product we maintain the visual appeal. We make sure that all joints are sealed and water-tight, and then make sure that the integrated components are clean and functioning properly.
